My navigation/bluetooth/Apps/Aux/USB/etc. stopped working. The radio, CD player and BU camera still work.
If I buy a replacement on fleebay, can I just plug it in and it works? I have read posts stating a different unit will need to be re-programmed by the dealer.
While I can't comment on whether or not you will need a reprogramming by the dealer I think you should consider your options a little more.
If this were me, and I know it's not, I would get an aftermarket unit. There are a ton of options out there that will give you what the OEM unit has and more.
Just my 2 cents.
Have you tried posting a WTB (or searching) in the classifieds here?
finding a unit is not the issue.
my question is: if i install a unit from another vehicle (ebay, etc.), does it just plug in and work or is system programming required.
has anyone done this???

Wish I had an answer for you. Not sure why everyone else keeps straying from the main subject you posted. Free bump for you.
Because nobody else would go back to the crappy entune.
this post has nothing to do with opinions on entune vs. aftermarket upgrades.
i just need my sh!t working so i can sell my 4r.
you are no help at all.
Sell it as-is? Maybe the new owner wants an aftermarket navi and you won't have to go through all this hassle of fixing something that isn't desired after all?

I understand this comment, but will be selling the truck in ~3-months and really just want it working.
I have read a lot of post on aftermarket options and none are plug-n-play and keep all of the oem stuff (b/u camera, phone/nav speaker, phone mic, aux/bluetooth inputs/outputs, steering wheel controls, xm antenna, etc.). Some setups do use/keep some, but I have not found one that use all of the oem stuff in a plug-n-play install. If I am wrong, please post info.
I would call a Toyota dealer by you, ask for the parts department. The parts guy should be able to tell you if it plug and play or not. If he doesnt know he should be able to ask a mech and get you the answer you need.
Should be plug and play as long as the same unit model... I have unplug it before and plug it back in, it didn’t ask me for any code etc.

my local dealer is worthless. you talk with a service adviser who knows nothing and the real service techs are in another building and not accessible. i can try the parts guy - good idea
unplug and plug same unit may not trigger issue???
He posted that he's selling it in 3 months. Why upgrade?
