'12 Nav Unit Died, Will Replacement from Ebay Need Dealer Programming?

While I can't comment on whether or not you will need a reprogramming by the dealer I think you should consider your options a little more.
If this were me, and I know it's not, I would get an aftermarket unit. There are a ton of options out there that will give you what the OEM unit has and more.

I understand this comment, but will be selling the truck in ~3-months and really just want it working.
I have read a lot of post on aftermarket options and none are plug-n-play and keep all of the oem stuff (b/u camera, phone/nav speaker, phone mic, aux/bluetooth inputs/outputs, steering wheel controls, xm antenna, etc.). Some setups do use/keep some, but I have not found one that use all of the oem stuff in a plug-n-play install. If I am wrong, please post info.
I know a lot of posts slam the Entune/Nav, but it worked fine for me and all mfgs have their downfalls with the infotainment system. It is the biggest complaint of new car buyers.
I'm just trying to figure out if I buy replacement units on fleebay, will they just plug in and work (assuming I get the same part numbers).

finding a unit is not the issue.
my question is: if i install a unit from another vehicle (ebay, etc.), does it just plug in and work or is system programming required.
has anyone done this???

Name one aftermarket unit which waits 15 seconds to start up after the vehicle is started.

it would limit buyers and give them an point to negotiate price reduction. i want it working and can't seem to get a clear answer regarding swapping in another unit.

I would call a Toyota dealer by you, ask for the parts department. The parts guy should be able to tell you if it plug and play or not. If he doesnt know he should be able to ask a mech and get you the answer you need.

Should be plug and play as long as the same unit model... I have unplug it before and plug it back in, it didn’t ask me for any code etc.

Crutchfield will give you premade harnesses that keep everything. Just select the recommended harnesses and the $20 "readyharness" option. You can have any receiver they sell be plug and play.
Other than that yes used OEM unit will work but could give you issues since the PN doesn't tell you when maps or the firmware were last updated. So you could get a unit that doesn't work with some phones, has really old maps or is just more glitchy than normal.

my local dealer is worthless. you talk with a service adviser who knows nothing and the real service techs are in another building and not accessible. i can try the parts guy - good idea
unplug and plug same unit may not trigger issue???

Service is usually a joke. They only seem to want your money. Parts guys get board and like to kill time finding answers it seems. If you dont get an answer by tomorrow morning, I'll call the Toyota by me with my dealer info and get you an answer.
Unplug and plug wont tell you anything. Some makes have a code you have to put in(Honda). I have had to take a Chevy to the dealer to have them program a head unit from the junk yard.
