$120 sleeping platform build 6'4"

Hey guys! I wanted a platform that I could leave in and put my seats up without giving up to much room or being too short.

I'm really happy with what I came up with, mind you the head room for sitting up is only like 22 inches but that's more than enough room for sleeping and uhhh.. other stuff.

If anyone is interested in building this I will post the specs and supplies. I just don't have it all written down at the moment.

I did get my carpet for free because it was left over from my house. But if you get outdoor carpet it will cost about 15 dollars for it all which is in the 120 budget. I actually made this all for 104 bc of that.

I'm no carpenter, but I like what you did and might be interested in giving it a go if you ever decide to post a how-to or good description.

Neither am I! I did this all with a sander a chop saw and a hand held circular saw. Very very easy!

I will post all the measurements and supplies and everything within the next few days. This whole project took me about two days totaling 6 hours.

Hey good eye! I was going to post that link with my modifications to make it easy to follow haha. You want it 2 inches shorter than mine or the original?

What did you do for the side "flaps"? Are they hinged? I've built something similar but I'm not sure what I want to do for the sides since I would like it to be wider. Right now mine's just a box that fits in the wheel wells.

does a full size mattress fit with your setup? looks big enough, with how high it is. :flamethrwoer2: okay, it's not big enough. but i love the setup. i kind of want to do the same since there is this girl that lives out of town that i well, you get the picture. i want to get busy. haha. looks good man! i wouldn't mind doing the same to my runner

A bit shorter than the original.

The ceiling height is about 38". My dog, when he stands and looks forward, is about 29" tall at the top of his head. So, I figure if I make the box about 6-7" tall with 5-6" deep drawers, it will leave him enough room to jump in and move around with a few inches to spare.

What are the specs of your platform?

I used 2x10s for the wall sitting on 1/2in plywood and on top. Drawers are made out of some 100lb slides. I can't remember the exact measurements and I wish I had, as so many people want them.

Yupp just two 12 inch hinges per flap.

My dog is actually 29 to his back and about 34 to the top of his head. So jumping in doesn't quite work for him haha I just have to get his paws up and shove him in haha.

The only thing is if the platform stops at the folded seats it's only about 5'6" and I'm 5'10" which is why I made it so tall. But I have a lot of storage under and I can fit an ice chest there.

My platform is 53" x 76" and a full size is 54" x 74". But you can find foldable mattresses with varying sizes I'm planning on getting this https://www.amazon.com/Fusion-Dri-Tec-2-inch-Mattress-Topper/dp/B01GD8XUXQ

What part of Cali are you in? If we are close you could check it out before build. It is really tall and not everyone will like that haha doesn't bother me though

Oh and it will work for what you want it for haha tested it out just the other day.

Hah nice! Big ol' dog! And yeah, their ability to jump in was another factor!

And actually, my plan is to use an inflatable full size mattress, and I am going to put wing nuts on my seat bottoms so they can easily be removed to fold out the front half. The inflateable mattress should be just about the most comfortable and packable option I will be able to find.

Wing nuts are a great idea! Who knows maybe I will do that eventually and lower my platform haha
