12v Outlets

So I just got a 2008 4Runner Limited for the wife a few weeks ago and have been searching the forum for lots of good info. The one things that I have not found yet is this:

Is there really only one 12v outlet in the front of the 4Runner? I know that there is one in the back, but really only one in the front?

Yes, there is one in the back on the left side while you open the back... that might just be 3-5, but i think its all 4th gens.

To address the OP, there are tons of people on this forum who has added anywhere from 1-3 additional outlets to their cars...

For example try this thread:http://www.toyota-4runner.org/accessories/49919-added-another-12v-socket.html

Also you can stop by your local radio shack and buy a splitter that turns one outlet into three... unless you need optimum power from each outlet, this will work perfectlu, and for me it fit great in the side open slot by the original power outlet... I'll throw up a picture later if you want.

Just do a search on the forum for 12v socket or add 12v power or something like that and I think you'll find your fill of information. There was a really seamless mod that one guy made, unfortunately I couldn't find it for you but with enough searching you might run into it.

Wait one in the back?
Where at in the back?

In the cargo area. If you're standing at the back of the vehicle looking towards the front it should be on the right hand side towards the rear of the vehicle. I don't know if it's standard on all 4th gen's or what. It's been on both of my sport editions.

To the OP - get the smokers kit like Asmara mentioned.. You should be able to get it online for $60ish. I've got one - it's great for the long trips when you've got accessories that need to charge.

I did an ease add of a 2nd outlet for my gps. I just wired into the existing unit by partially removing center consul and splicing wires. The unit is located next to the drivers seat and the gps cord is tucked under the edge of the plastic to hold in place. I leave the gps pluged in most of the time and use the regular one for other devices. I then use a 110v charger plugged into the outlet in the center consul for charging my phone as it is much faster charging than 12v.

In my Limited model (05) the extra trunk 12V plug is on the right hand side, if you're looking toward the front.
You have the cig plug in the front and then the 110V in the center console. As others have mentioned above, I have seen people buy the splitter at Radio Shack and mount the 3-way plug on the side of the center console. It looks pretty good right there (where your knee would be if you were sitting in the passenger seat) and is very convenient from the drivers side.

Part Number for Outlet Socket

Hey guys - I've been searching for a while but haven't turned much up. I just purchased a 2004 SR5 and as far as I can tell, the console outlet is toast. I am trying to find the part number to order and replace it. I'd love to replace the cover as well if I could - all I've been able to find is the smoker's package as you mentioned, but that isn't the kind I have (picture of mine) - https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-OEM-To...-Kit-Cigarette-Lighter-2003-2009/401460868224. I was wondering if any of you have come across this in your travels - thanks in advance!

I don't think Toyota sells that type any longer that I could find, but if you did happen to find new one from a dealer it would cost between $200 to $300, I think your best bet is to try looking at local savage yards for one in good condition...or simply replace it with the smoker's package which fits all 4th gens, it is considered an upgrade by many who have replaced their wiht the smoker's package.

You could also possibly find an aftermarket replacement power outlet and repair the one you have.

As AuSeeker mentioned above, the easiest way is to just get the smoker’s kit, which will actually give you 2 charging ports instead of 1, and is literally less than a 5 minute swap for what you currently have. They can easily be found on eBay, Amazon, etc. The other option he mentioned is also simple/cheap if you don’t need 2 outlets or just don’t like the look of the smokers kit. Just search amazon, or eBay for replacement power port, or cigarette lighter. You can then just change that out, assuming your wiring is still supplying 12v. If it isn’t than it may be just a fuse problem.

Thank you AuSeeker and Terminator - that's very helpful. I was worried I was going crazy when I couldn't find it. I think I'll look on Amazon for a replacement and get the smoker's package if not - I don't smoke so I feel like the ashtray is a bit wasteful but I suppose that the compartment on the version I have is so small its fairly unusable and a waste anyway.

Thanks again!

Check the classified section, there are a couple guys parting out 4th gens. They may have what you are looking for.

I have a 2006 SR5 and the second 12V power port is in the luggage’s compartment on the right hand side as you open the tailgate. Is that not the standard setup?
