12V Power

I've got a new three point, 12V power kit that I would like to hard wire off the fuse box. I'd like to have it switched (ignition on), but it has a switch of it's own that I can turn off.

What's the best way to wire the unit? I know where I want to put it, just not where to run the positive off of. Directly off the fuse box? If so, how do I add the wire into the socket.

I'd rather not spice any wires, but I'm willing to wire it into the existing power point.

I've done a good search, I just can't find any specifics.

If I understand you correct, you could use one of these....

$7.99 from Radioshack. The black square cover comes off.



You'll have to crimp a connector onto the power wire in order to tap onto the mini fuse. You'll have to get a "O ring" connector to tap onto the ground in your car.

You can tap into the fuse box using "mini fuse taps" $1.99

Just make sure to tap into a fuse that will provide you enough power to power your device. If you want the power to turn off when your car is off, then choose a fuse that isn't still "hot" while the car is off. Always make sure to use fuses.

I have the power point, now I just need a fuse tap and a location on the box on a 4th gen that gives me enough power to run it, on when the truck is running.

I'll take a look at the fuse box in the manual and I should be good to go.

Glad I could help.

If you have power seats, that fuse is always hot. I have a 2wd t4r and I tapped into a "4wd" fuse that only comes on when the car is on. Pretty easy to do.

I did however scratch my head why I had a "4wd" fuse in a "2wd" t4r....

Any open spots on the box that have switched power for 12V?

Don't ever pull that 4WD fuse, knows what could happen...

Hmmm....The only switched fuse that I've used is the "4wd" one on my 2wd.

I don't remember if you can tap into something like the moon roof or maybe the rear wiper blade. I would try to tap into something that you don't use as often so that you don't run the chance of overloading the fuse.
