'14 LE owners ~ Leather Issue

Has anyone had issues with their leather? My rear seat was sat in for 30 minutes and now it looks like this. The center of the front seats appear to have a thicker leather than the rears. Regardless, the issue is unacceptable @ 160 miles.

Is it possible it was like that before purchase? I would say there is something wrong with the leather. It looks like it was wet for a long period of time.

I will take a closer look at mine but I don't think it has ever looked like that and I have had several people ride in the back.

Note to self don't drive anyone in the back. I have the same sits but haven't driven anyone in the back and i was actually impress by quality of the leather up front compare to my 2013, which looked like crap from me jumping in and out. It is bummer to see that on not cheap trucks. Hopefully you get that square away.

Slightly off topic, but can you post pictures of your truck, not to many lifted 14' limited around here. Thanks.

My '14 LE looked exactly the same for the first few weeks. I was concerned too, but it eventually straightened out and looks as it should now.

lol looks like someone sat on some sandpaper or had some rough something happening on them seats

I don't know what the redwood leather of the second row looks like. Haven't seen it since the night I picked it up sometime in november. My 'three car seat across the 2nd row'-Mod prevents me from seeing the leather. ;) I'm more afraid what 10k miles of having car seats strapped to them will do...oh well.

Sorry to be of no help. Hope it either straightens out or your dealer fixes it.

I did not notice it at delivery. I ordered the truck. It arrived at the dealer with 2 miles on it & when I arrive to take delivery 4 days later it had 4 miles on it. I am assuming the additional 2 miles are after the PDI & filling the gas tank.

Which seating location was it for you?

The thought that the summer heat may straighten it out has entered my mind.

I noticed the driver's seat first, but all seats did it once they were sat in. I think it just took time for them to 'break in'.

Hmm... I sat in the driver's seat for 1.5 hrs on the return trip home after delivery. One would think the driver's seat would have done what the right rear did, but it looks completely normal.

Update, this issue never resolved itself, not even after being parked in the hot summer sun a few times. The selling dealer is planning to replace the seat cover.

Thank you for the update!
I have a 2015 LE with the same color interior.
Hopefully it's an isolated incident.

Water in seat

I had the same thing happen in mine. Over time I found it would do this when it would get wet then really hot. A coupe days later it would be gone.

Glad to hear you are getting the issue resolved. I don't know much about this particular issue with 4runners, but I am very familiar with leather. There are quite a few possibilities that could have caused this, which happens to include the skin quality of the cow it came off of. My guess is the leather is maybe too thin in that area. Leather conditioner or hand lotion should help too, but who cares now? problem fixed!

Same experience as ryanbt. I noticed this after the first few hundred miles and was very concerned but it seems to have "broken in" and looks normal now.

If it got water in the seat it happened at the dealership during PDI.

This one seat (right rear) is the only seat that has this issue. I have applied leather conditioner to the area. It did not help.

I am not hopefully that the new seat cover can be installed properly at the dealership. I certainly would feel more comfortable if an experienced auto upholstery shop was doing the install.

I'm going to guess that the local dealership farms out upholstery jobs to upholstery shops. I know an auto upholstery shop owner and a lot of his work is dealership work.

Resurrecting an old thread, but I'm having the same issue on the driver side with my redwood interior. I have 1400 miles on it and hoping it breaks in like other posters have indicated.

Did the OP get a replacement from the dealer, and how it the leather doing now?

Thanks.
