15.6 mpg new to me 4runner

I recently picked up a nice green 99 Limited from my sister in law who had it since 20k. It now has 113k. I just did a timing belt kit (2nd one), plugs, wires, radiator and external trans cooler in addition to all the fluids. The only thing i didn't do yet was the fuel filter.
I just ended up running through a tank of fuel after a few weeks of mixed driving. Full to gas light in 211 miles. Surprisingly it only took 13.5 gallons to fill for an average of 15.6mpg. Does that sound about right?
I've been easy on it and that's mixes city/highway so i was expecting more like 18-19.

Could be a little low, but that depends on a lot of things. Do you let it idle much? Is the mix more city than highway? What engine does your truck have? (assuming 3.4 since you changed the timing belt) Is your truck automatic? Is your truck 4wd? etc. etc.

I think 18/19 for a mix of city/highway is a little much. I get 17.5 on a good tank and I'm mostly highway.

That's about right. I get 15/16 city and have gotten best of 20/21 highway (65mph). The 21mpg could have been a fluke but that's what it came out to.
BTW this is with a 98 4runner sr5 4wd 151k miles.

I get 15.8 on my 2000 I just bought. It still needs shocks, alignment, fuel filter,rotation, plugs, wires, new fluids, and the k&n air filter cleaned, as well as a few other little things. Hopefully with that done I can hit 17, if I'm lucky . And that's almost all city. 95000 miles

I'm getting dead on 18 mpg in my 2001 4WD Sport Auto. That's around town driving back and forth to work which I don't break 50 mph. It gets closer to 20 when I have a town/highway 50/50 mix going on.

211 Miles seems a little low to me. I get anywhere between 250-2750 before the gas light comes on.

Oh if you have a good amount of city then 16mpg is normal, i drive my 4runner around college which is almost all lights and under 35mph, and at the amount of fuel it uses you would think it was leaking somewhere. I do 20-21 on the highway though.

15-18 mpg city; 20-21 mpg on all-flat highway at 65 mph or under qualifies as normal for the 2001 4WD. Much newer SUVs really don't do so much better -- and it keeps me maintaining my 3rd gen. as long as I can.

I have to keep my fuel receipts for work so I just averaged my last 3 tanks today on my 99 w/ 140k. It was 19.7mpg
