15 Inch Rims

I'm planning on buying a 3rd gen in the next couple of months and I'm wondering if anyone knows which years and models came stock with a 15 inch rim. I have a brand new set of 31x10.50's that I would like use, but I have read that they will not work on a 4runner with a stock 16 inch rim, unless I grind the calipers or use some wheel spacers. I'm looking for a 4x4 and I know that more 2wds came with 15 inch rims. Can anyone help me out and narrow which years or models would work?

is a 1997 base 4 cyl. 5 speed and it came with 15" wheels.

Yeah i had a 2000 base 3RZ 4x4 5spd that had 15's. However not all base models had 15's and some SR5's did get them. My 1996 SR5 parts rig has 15's. I think its safe to say that the limiteds got 16's though

Thanks for the responses. Yeah I really don't want to get rid of my tires and wheels, but I really wouldn't want to grind the calipers. I guess I will just keep an eye out when I'm looking for my 4runner, but the rear lock diff would be nice in the Limited, so I might just have to make that trade.

Trust me, getting new tires that will fit on 16" wheels and selling the tires you have now is going to be much better than finding a 3rd gen with 15s and putting up with the stupidly underpowered brakes that go along with them.

and possibly underpowered 4cyl...

sell em, take the money and get a 4wd with locker and supercharger...

Yeah I definitely want the V6 and I have heard that the brakes already suck. I would eventually try to upgrade to the Tundra 231mm brakes and 17's. A locker and supercharger would be nice though. I had a supercharger on a tacoma a few years back and it was a lot of fun. It was hard not to peel out with the light truck bed on the back. Still wonder why I sold the truck and bought a corolla. Hopefully soon I'll make it out of the classics forum and into the 3rd gen. Thanks for the help.

I think I recall the sticker on my inner door seal (driver side) says 15" wheels came stock on my 97 SR5 2WD. Now have the 06 Tundra 16" and looking for the 231 Brake upgrade! Good Luck on your search.

I have a 01 SR5 with 15"s wheel size was a option on some models. Get what works for you and up grade as you go!
When you get rite down to it it's all about what you can afford how you plan to drive it? Daily driver,some off road,or full time trail rig.I multitask mine haling my family,camper,20'pontoon boat,:hunter:back woods hunting trips etc.. with that I wish you luck with your search.
