16 inch wheels?

Hey guys,

I'm close to coming back to the T4R family and it feels great! As soon as I can get this LC100 sold, the TE will be in the driveway...

I've been browsing and searching threads in the past few weeks looking at mods already, and I know that there have been a few mentions that minimum wheel sizes are 17". I wanted to see if anyone knows what keeping the 16" wheels from fitting? I'm assuming that the 16" wheels won't clear the brakes, but wanted to confirm with anyone that has tried. It would be awesome if i could reuse this set (16x8 +3)from my 3rd gen runner, but I think I already know my answer already.

I keep reading that the brake calipers prevent us from using 16" wheels. I was a fan of the Ivan Stewart TRD wheels on the Tundra, but they're 16's and won't work on our 4Runners.

That's great news if they fit!I hope they know the 5ths went to the bigger brakes. I know some FJ guys that bought the 16's said they barely cleared their smaller brakes. These flat black TE37X's are the ones I'm drooling over.........Volk TE37x's Anyone??? - Page 9 - Toyota FJ Cruiser Forum I would even consider shaving my calipers down a little if it's close.

Who did you order them from and how much? I know they are usually a long wait but worth it.Anybody else chime in if you know some place to buy/order them at the cheapest price!

I put a lift on NTUR4's TE with TE37's and man were they sweet and light when I took the wheels off. Loved them! I think she's the only one on here that has authentic Volks. 10+lbs less per wheel would help offset the heavy offroad tires and with them being forged still hold up to wheelin with them. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/65893-post-your-lifted-pix-here-5.html#post612821

I just ordered them from a local shop spark motoring - products , $500 each with option color titanium silver no center caps, and takes 2-3 months.

I don't want to beat a dead horse here but, Has anyone had any luck fitting 16" wheels on their 5th gen by grinding down the calipers. I really would like to run a smaller wheel as I feel a 17 x 8.5 is to big of a wheel for my taste. Please don't abuse me as I know this has been asked before BESIDES the grinding part.

I looked at it and I really think it is not going to work even with grinding. It would really compromise the caliper if you ground it far enough for the 16. I do think you could get some adapters and run the military 16.5 but the 37" tire would be a problem with the bodies on these suckers. If you SAS, you can drop down the front to an 80 knuckle and hub and you'd be able to run the 80 series caliper and I am pretty sure there is probably enough clearance on the rears to get the 16s on. Just hypothesizing as nobody here has successfully done it yet!

thanks, I figured if it was a minor trim, no biggie. It seams everyone I talk to says no way so I am moving on. The only reason I asked is I've seen new tundras with shaved calipers fit 17" wheels so I thought maybe.........

I used 16" wheel before. (TRD wheels 16 x 7.5J +10)
I have put a wheel spacers 1.7" Hub Centric in front, and I shaved front calipers.

But there was little space between front calipers and wheels.
