16" or 17"rims on a 08 sport will they work?

My 08 4runner sport came with 17" rims on it and I wanted to get a set of rims for winter tires so I purchased a set of 16" rims hoping to put somethin a little deeper sidewall (taller), and a little narrower. Ayway, I have heard from some sources that the wheels are not going to fit, and others say they will. I have called 5 dealerships and 2 of the 5 say no go, the others all say that the tires are an option on the truck. I would have just tried them on myself, but I don't yet have the wheels, I have to go pick them up. Oh, discount tires direct lists 16" wheels as working on the 08 sport.

Someone else here just ran into this problem recently.
Toyota 16" wheels will not fit the Sport because of the larger brakes. Maybe other manufactures' 16" might fit. Try a dry fit (don't mount the wheel because then it's considered used) of the wheel only onto the axle end if you are still unsure. Don't take delivery of these wheels without this step otherwise they may not be returnable.
