16" Rotors v 17" Wheels

hi folks

I'm going to replace my front rotors and pads this weekend

I called Autozone re their Duralast product and was asked if I had 15" or 16" wheels; I stated I have 17" wheels and they said 15" or 16" are the only choices so I have their last pair of 16" rotors waiting for me ($31 each)

I'm assuming I should be able to use the smaller rotors inside the larger wheel; any advice?

I'm planning on upgrading to Tundra rotors/calipers next time but need to get this done now for safety

any input would be appreciated

Chances are you have 16" rotors - the only way you wouldn't is if the PO changed the brakes to 17"s or the truck came with 15"s (not likely on an '01). You may be able to measure the diameter from under the truck withoutremoveing the tire and just make sure the vatozone ones match. Otherwise, take your tire off if you have to.

lol make it simple theres rotors that are smaller and work with 15'' wheels and there the bigger ones for 16'' wheels hence why he asked does yours have 15s or 16s im prob goin with yours has the bigger ones

check your door jamb sticker and see what it says for wheel size

that don't really help much mine says 15s yet it had 16'' wheels and bigger brakes installed

you may have 17" wheels on there now, but the 3rd Gen never came from the factory with 17's

look in your door jamb to see what wheel came on it from the factory, there is a difference in the front brakes (as you found out)

re the 17" wheels when I did a Carfax before purchase (from an off-brand dealer at 64K miles) the report stated my T4R started life as a renter; I've seen my exact model on the road maybe three times since purchasing in 2005 with the five-spoke wheels and black rock rails/brush guard -- of course I can always do a VIN search when I get around to it

I'm going to pull off one of the wheels tomorrow; get this, the last time I went out to routinely test my onboard jack and lower the spare I got a letter from the mgmt company stating according to my covenant agreeement no auto maintenance is allowed anywhere on condo property and my employer also stated they are not covered for anyone performing auto repair in this parking lot -- my plan is to go back over to Autozone since I bought the parts there

the large sticker in the jamb has psi info for 15" tires and a smaller sticker on the door itself has psi info for 15" + 16" tires

thanks so much for all the input; looks like I'll fit these rotors/pads then change over to Tundra rotors/pads next year, maybe use these rotors to convert the rear brakes if I can't install Tundra rotors on the rear
