16 Tacoma better than 4runner..

You cannot compare the two because they are different in so many ways...

I was also right in this toss up not too long ago..

A truck in my opinion are more for individuals who actually will lug things around that an SUV cannot accommodate.. And the tacoma is built for small Japanese men who does not have an issue sitting all crunch up not caring about the back seat passenger lmao.. If you are 5ft 6in over then this isn't the ride for you lol..

A SUV accommodates to a family that actually cares about their car seats because of max leg room and wants to feel more comfy during long rides.. May act like truck by hauling stuff around can also get dirty as a truck when need too..

It boils down to what you need or what you want..

I chose the 4R because of room and backseat passengers.

Traded in the Taco for this.... Taco didn't come close to it.. The tranny on it was awful and the engine was pretty much heartless.. Looking for an older 2nd gen taco as of now..

I choose both...

I like having a bed I can throw miscellaneous things in, including gear.

I also enjoy having a 4runner for long trips with the family. The difference to me is merely do I want to store my gear in a bed or do I want to store it inside the vehicle with me.

In all honesty the 4runner and tacoma are evenly matched off road possibly a slight edge toward the 4runner considering its still on factory tires and does just as well

I came from a Tacoma and my main reason for switching was interior storage space. More usable for my purpose. Have a trailer for when I need to move/transport larger items.

I get that people like newer cars and technology - but in the end, don't we buy Toyota's for their reliability and function? I find the 4th Gen 4runner with a V8 to be the perfect utility truck. Functional power and capability. Sure, it might not have heated seats and chinchila fur steering wheel, but it goes wherever the **** I want it to And with 200k + miles it still drives like the day I bought it...and it's still a nice looking vehicle. I vote 4th Gen.

When I was selling my 2013 F250 I was 95% set on a new Tacoma. I had read so many rave reviews and heard great things from owners. I had a buyer lined up for my F250 for about a week out, so I went and test drove a Tacoma. When I punched it getting on the interstate, my wife kind of laughed and my stomach dropped. Not only that, the cloth seats were just a major downer in terms of interior feel, with no leather as options on the TRD Off Road or Sport.

I loved my F250 but was ready for something new, and thought I could find the same feelings in the Tacoma. Once we got home my wife and I were really concerned about selling the truck I had already committed on selling to a buyer, yet not being able to find a vehicle I wanted. At the dealer was also a 4Runner TRD Off Road Premium. The next night after work I went and test drove the 4Runner and it was a night and day difference. While it didn't have the 400hp/800lb power that my F250 had, it at least didn't have this ridiculous lag that the Tacoma had, plus the ride and interior were far, far more plush.

I understand why some people like their tacomas. Super reliable, basic (less crap to break) and look nice. Compared to even a regular half ton luxury domestic truck, it's like comparing a Kia Soul to a BMW M3.. Obviously the price differences are pretty significant, but for 35k-40k in the Tacoma one would at least think they could offer leather as an option..

Anyways - not meant to put down Tacoma owners and I'm sure they certainly had their place. I was dead set on buying one because I wanted a bed to haul my motorcycle, but I've since decided I would rather rent or buy a small utility trailer to haul it instead..

I am seeing lots of articles that the 2018 Tacoma will get a cummins 2.8L Diesel.

Tacoma is going to probably go with a major refresh of some sort but in the engine department most likely.

The 2014 to 2015 Toyota Camry went with a major almost design change refresh. So I will not be shocked if something like this will happen to the 2018 Tacoma.

17 TRD Off Road

I test drove a TRD Sport Tacoma and a TRD Off Road Taco before I purchased my T4R. BY FAR the T4R is better than the Taco. Yes the runner has only a 5 speed and the old 4.0. BUT the combo is proven and bullet proof and better performing/driving then the Taco drivetrain. There are so many more things that the 4Runner does better including interior quality etc I could go on forever. Keep it simple, get the T4R unless you need the bed of the Taco. Simple as that. Cannot beat the T4R in any other other aspect other than not having a bed.

I am coming out of a 2016 Tacoma, and into a 2017 4Runner.

Main Reasons I parted with the Taco.
1. Transmission, I live in a area were there are a lot of hills, something the 2016 Tacoma HATES.
2. Power, it's there but not till 4-5000 RPM.
2.5. General Drive ability was terrible.
3. Head Room, I am 6'2" and I like to drive "up on the wheel" I was constantly hitting my head on the headliner. It felt cramped. I felt like I was slouching because the headliner was RIGHT THERE. Note: My truck did have a sunroof, my new FunRunner will not.

Don't get me wrong, they are great trucks. I loved the way mine turned out and it boogied off-road.

I'm trying to build a franken-vehicle using the toyota 6sp from an 05' - 15' taco. It would be an RC62F trans code. Does anyone have one of these?
