17" aluminum wheels + powerball?

Does anyone know whether I can use this Mothers PowerMetal polish on this wheel? The instructions say to rub a little bit on an inconspicuous spot and if it doesn't turn dark or black immediately, then you shouldn't use it (and instead use another product like plastic polish for coated wheels).

Does anyone know if the 17" wheels are coated? Or if a pro can offer some guidance here, that'd be great.

P.S. I had found this other thread at http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9860 but there was no definitive conclusion, so I'm hoping someone can chime in here with some good advice.

My 03 SE's wheels are lightly clear coated - hence the ball would not turn black. That said 10% of clear coat is coming off the one that was a rotated spare. I'm going to try it on that one and see if it will bring the damaged areas back to normal.
