17" Rims on a 2001?

Will that work without rubbing? What size tires would I need to avoid rubbing? Everything is stock (no lift, etc)...what else would I need to do in order to get those on there? Just looking at wheel options so that I can eventually do the Tundra brake mod.

I have 15" wheels on there now...yeah I know...:violin:

Not sure how much different the '01s are from my '96, but I fit the FJ Cruiser 17" rims with 265/70/17 tires on mine without any rubbing. Those are roughly 32" tires, so not much more than the stock 31".

BTW, at this time I don't have a lift either on my truck.

I don't have any spacers on with my FJC rims.

No rubbing, no spacers, not lifted (yet) with 265/65's

The backspacing on rims varies so some will work and some won't. The FJ and tundra rims seem to work so if you're getting those you'll be ok. But, you'll need to verify every 17" rim you're thinking about getting.

If we're talking OEM, like 4th gen wheels, fj, or tundra wheels, it really just depends on the tire size.

265/65/17 will not rub, guaranteed.

265/70/17 (essentially the same size as 265/75/16) will rub if your suspension is low enough which might be the case since you have an 01... trimming of the mudflap and pinch weld may be required.

They will fit as many of us have them.

Pinch weld is a standard automotive term.

In this case, he is referencing the pinch weld at the back of the front wheel well.

Assuming those are OEM 17's from another Toyota (4Runner, Tacoma, FJ Cruiser or 1st gen Tundra/Sequoia), they should bolt right on and work. If you get rubbing at the back of the wheel well, it can generally be fixed with a new alignment where you add additional caster, which moves the front wheels forward on these trucks. It will take a decent alignment shop to do/know what you want.

I bought some 5th gen 17” wheels to put on my ‘02. I found a really good deal on some basically brand new Michelin LTX M/S2 that are 245/75R17. They’re basically the same height as a 265/70R17 (31.5” vs 31.6”). I know they are a narrower tire, so I wonder if rubbing is more common due to excessive tire diameter or if tire width makes a big difference.

We run LT 265 70 17 on 7.5" wide Sequoia/Tundra rims. Not sure the year they're from though. No issues except a slight rub at full crank on the steering wheel when under some suspension flex.

Just put some 17" wheels from a 2010 4Runner on my stock '02 V6 4WD. I went with 245/7517 Michelin LTX M/S2 tires mainly because I found such a good deal on them. I was moving up from the stock 15" wheels/tires, so these look much better despite being a little narrower than the stock 265's. The height of these tires is actually taller than the stock 265/70R16 (31.5" vs 30.6") so they fill the wheel wells perfectly.
