18 4runner TPMS multiple wheels

did a search and found several threads that said the car can only store 1 set of wheels so i am a little confused...

long story short, got a 18 OR, switched out to the new wheels and NEW SET of OEM TPMS and learned to the vehicle.

today is switched back to the OEM wheels and i got no warning light... drove it around the block and still got no warning lights. The new TPMS are exact part as the original OR wheels.

did something change for the 18? how can it remember 2 sets of wheels. Or something is wrong with the car? i got it done at discount tire

They cloned the original TPMS sensors. The 4runner doesn't know or care what set is on......
 
how can they cloned a factory OEM sensors? i thought each sensors has unique ID

They originally sold me some generic sensors that couldn't get learn to the car... so i went and got them factory toyota for them.

Not sure on that, Perhaps they didn't put your new OEM sensors in and they figured out how to program the generic ones?

This is how the Toyota TPMS algorithm works:
1. After the 4Runner is started, the TPMS processor on your truck looks for a low pressure warning or warnings from the TPMS sensors on the wheels.
2. If there is no low pressure warning or warnings then the TPMS processor sets the timer (20-30 minutes) to check whether the TPMS sensors on the wheels are functional. If the TPMS processor cannot communicate with all of the TPMS sensors then you will get the TPMS warning light on your dash.
3. TPMS processor continuously monitors for low pressure from all TPMS sensors as long as the engine is on.

The reason for no warning light is that you didn't drive the truck long enough for the TPMS processor to check whether your TPMS sensors are operational.
Your TPMS processor is mated with the new sensors IDs. You are right about 1 set of TPMS sensors. If you drive your truck continuously for 20-30 min you will get the warning light because the TPMS processor does not see the programmed sensor IDs as expected.

thanks for the great write up, i shouldn't have said driving around the "block" cause i took it on hwy and pretty sure it has a least 20-30min. And till today, still no warning light.
 
I run 2 sets of wheels and tires. One set does not have tpms sensors. I can drive for 30 minutes or so without the sensors before the light comes on. Even if the light does come on it resets when it sees the original tires with the sensors when I pull into the garage.
