1985 worth a look?

Vehicle prices are WAY higher in the PNW than most of the rest of the continent. Not sure why, but they just are. I wouldn’t pay $9k, but I’m not shocked to see him try for it. The paint and non factory door card set would be enough for me to knock it down to around $6-7k, assuming everything else was minty.

not to me. i prefer ifs. in any event, $7k is too much, let alone $9k. i'm happy with both of my $5k purchases, one 1987 with 97k miles, and the second 1987 with 238k miles. how about that? two complete running 4runners in equal or better condition than the one in this thread for virtually the same amount as the asking price. you will NEVER convince me that the solid axle is better for what i need out of them.

yeah, I get that, to YOU its not, clearly. I don't know where you live, but around here, that thing would sell for what he's asking. maybe even more. clean 85's are rare and come with a price. people will pay it.

What part of Washington are you in Nevada? I’m up by Blaine/Bellingham.

1985's are going for much more than their counterpart IFS models. I've been looking for a 1985 for the past 6 months and not much comes along that is either trailed-out or rusted-out. Or, they are commanding > $10k.

However, my search has come to an end yesterday I bought a 1985 non-SR5 (manual). I lucked out as you can see from the body as there is no rust, all metal repairs plus brand new Toyota factory white (033) paint. It needs a few interior bits that I would have replaced anyway (carpet, shift boots, radio) but I already found a non-cracked dash pad (miracle) and it's on the way.

I think I got it for a steal at $5k.

I've had an 85 and an 87. Both in Australia. Love both of them. I personally think $9K is too high even for the US market. If you want a SFA then maybe this is a desirable vehicle but this means you probably intend to rock crawl in which case paying that much is a waste.

Id be on the fence at $8000.

$7500 for a SFA in this condition is where I would be at for this vehicle. So yes, worth a look for sure! Remember people expect to be bargained down. And who knows his situation - does he NEED to offload this for some other project as an example?

No, nothing near me that interests me. I'd be looking for an unmolested SR5 with an auto to boot. It would have to be nice cause the wife would be making me sleep in it if I add a 4th 4runner. I'd not be getting rid of my 87 anyways. They are just a blast to run around in.

I do think that some of the more rare 1st gen 4runners will be going up in value. The mint 85s will be one of them. :first:

I would definitely wait it out and be patient. Auto/SR5/1985 is going to be a tough nut to crack. When I bought my first 1985 back in 2005, it seemed like all I could find were autos. Now it seems the tables have turned. Good luck.

Worth a look. Likely the seller doesn't *really* want to sell at that price...but if you get a shop to look it over and come with the bill (or diy), you could get them to come down. Speaking from experience!
