1986 22RE to 2000 2.7

I have an 86 4Runner that is in need of an engine. I also have a 2000 Tacoma with a Bent Frame.

What are your thoughts on a motor swap.... that is upgrading the 22RE?

I am thinking that minimally I would have to swap wiring harness as well, and I haven't looked at radiator sizes.

Would the 00 motor bolt up to the Transmission? If not, obviously I would have to do the transfer case but would I have to replace the Drive Shafts or would they work?

Any thoughts or ideas are greatly appreciated!!!!

What kind of motor is in the Tacoma?

If it's a V6, it's not going to bolt up to the transmission. Chances are 14 years won't see that type of mating working.

The mounts are probably similar, and an older V6 transmission might bolt up.

Toyota does reuse it's designs for a long time, and the Tacoma is basically the same design as the T100 the 4Runner was built from... It may not be hard to make it all fit, but making it all work is a different story.

It is a 4 Cylinder, and I believe it is the 2.7L EFI.

The tacoma is 4Wheel Drive, standard cab, Manual Transmission

The 4runner is also 4WD, Manual Transmission.

Both had AC and Power Steering. Although I don't care if I have AC when I am done.

I have not seen one but I hear that the 3RZ is a common swap for first gens. I would google around for 3RZ swap and see what comes up.
