1986 4Runner. New Member in Northern Florida

Just turned 16 on the first of this month, go car shopping that night and I find a cherry 1st gen 4runner for a killer price and so begins my story with Toyota. Looking forward to heing on the forum

Welcome! I almost bought that very beast back in 1985 - well, an '85 and a different color, but... Ended up with an SR5 Extra-Cab 4x4 instead. You're going to love it. Congrats on the excellent find!

Can you actually get your license at 16 in FL? We have to wait until 16 and 3 months and have 55 hours documented (swear in court) of driving with a parent in VA! My son is 17 and has the white '89 you see below but just got a 2000 Tacoma. My other son gets his learners sometime this week and will probably drive the '89 in the future.

Anyway, you lucked into a super nice 4Runner. Do you have any plans other than driving it? I really like the red. You might know that there's no clear coat on the old Toyota red and you should keep it waxed. It if fades you can bring it back with compound and polish. I hope you stick around because 1st gens are getting rare and fewer members have them.

Thank you! It has a few issues but they are being worked out. My father was trying to talk me into a much newer toyota and i was just too eaten up in this thing to even leave it alone for a few more days. Looking forward to being here on the Forum guys!

You CAN get your license at 16 here in florida but that is only if you got your permit on the day of you turning 15. I dont really have a whole lot planned for it to be honest, it wont be offroaded very hard so ill probably just slowly restore it over time. A soft top kit is also in the picture but that will come much later
