1986 First Gen 4runner from Texas

I just picked up a 1986 4Runner via Craigslist this weekend! I am an active member on Tundratalk and have been lurking here while looking for a First Gen 4Runner! The 1986 4Runner is in great shape and I can't believe it is truly 99% rust free and bondo free! I spent 20 minutes looking for rust underneath and pulled up the carpet as well! It has been a Texas truck all of it's life! The only thing that doesn't work is the A/C which i will fixed if it is something cheap! My only immediate plans are to buy a soft top! I have been searching for a couple of weeks and it appear Softtopper and Canback are the go to soft tops? I am leaning towards a Softtopper unless i can find any more recommendations? I am thrilled to have a weekend toy to give my Tundra a break! Here are a couple of pictures!

Nice pick up! I was watching this on craigslist as well, looked really clean from the photos.

He was asking $4,750 but I finally got him down under 4K! I was just browsing through Craigslist for classic cars like always and said there is something cool that I can actually afford!

Nice clean base model! I recommend softtopper or make a bikini top yourself for cheap! Soft top is not good with ac as you will loose your cool real fast lol

great looking truck, and clean too. the interior looks to be in great shape. having just bought a softopper, i have to say it's awesome. so far anyway. the can back looks to be a better quality product, more rigid and able to support a roof rack. but i do like the versatility of the softopper with it's folding function which i don't believe the canback is able to do. i guess it comes down to what you want it for...

I couldn't wait and had to take the top off of the 4Runner! Ruger is ready for a ride and Heisman is questionable at best! I was impressed with how easy it was to take the top off the 4Runner! It was a 1 man and 1 complaining wife job!

Thanks! I just got a 1.5 inch Front Ball Joint Spacer Kit from Toytec installed to level out the front since the rear had a AAL. I am planning to install new carpet tomorrow since I just got my package from Rock Auto in today.

I now have cold AC $90 later! I am so pumped it only needed freon and it wasn't the compressor!

Ive never had AC working in mine since Ive owned it. Just the green dash light when the button is pressed, no compresaor kicking on. Where did you get the r12? Did you convert it?
