Ok, I've only posted a few things here but I feel like someone might be interested in what I've got here. I have a 1987 4Runner that is in amazing shape inside and out, but the bad is I think it has a bad head gasket. It was well taken care of for most of it's life, but I haven't been able to keep up with it lately. It has really low miles, only 166,xxx on this thing, but it does have some issues. Let me give you a brief history first. I have had this truck for quite a few years now. I got it from my uncle who bought it new. He babied it and hardly put any miles on it. I have tried to take similar care of it. I've kept the inside really clean and it's almost impossible to find these old stock 4Runners with such little rust. The head gasket was replaced about 5 years ago along with a radiator, then a clutch about 3 years ago. Those are the only big things I can remember. I got pretty crazy with the oil changes and was changing it about every 2500 miles. I started driving it pretty heavily about 2 and half years ago, commuting from Logan UT, to Las Vegas every week. It was such a champ. I ended up moving to Cedar City, UT about 2 years ago which is where my truck started being difficult. It started with my ring and pinon in the rear axle going out on the freeway. This was in the winter and I was going to school so I didn't have time to fix it, plus I couldn't find the part. I ended up just pulling off the drive line and broken ring and pinion, kicking it into 4-wheel drive, and just running it off the front wheels. This was suppose to be only temporary but I ended up leaving it that was for at least a year now. I was really into road bikes and since you can pretty much go everywhere in Cedar on a road bike it wasn't much of a problem for me. I think I made one trip to St. George like that, but it gets worse gas millage and I don't know how safe it really is. I also replaced the rear shocks at the same time, thinking that was my suspension problem, but it was actually my leaf springs so a couple weeks later, my leaf springs gave out more and toasted the shocks I had just installed. That's when I started getting a little frustrated with the repairs. It started picking up a heating issue again also. I replaced a radiator hose and though it helped there is still something wrong. I hate to say it but I think it has a bad head gasket again, and now it will only drive about 10 miles before it starts to get hot. So anyway that's the way it has been sitting for about a year now. I would drive it about once a week for groceries and things. I haven't bothered registering it because of the heating, but I actually think it could pass right now if you don't tell them about the heating issue. I just put in a brand new battery and rear brakes, (the fronts still looked really good so I didn't replace those). It has some pretty cool upgrades: I put a nice push bar and front end bra up front, a thule snowboard rack up top, some really nice Hella yellow headlights that look super hot! Inside I put in a nice sound system with some JL Audio subs in the back, I think they're 12's. It has an alpine cd player but I kept the old stock 80's Toyota radio face plate and hinged it over the Alpine unit so it hides it. (That actually saved my stereo when someone broke in and stole my old sub and amp but didn't know about the stereo...) I ran a wire from the back of the stereo up into the ash tray where I custom installed a 1st gen ipod nano dock, so you can keep your ipod in the ash tray and pull it out to play and charge in the dock. I ran another wire directly under the stereo in the extra bin for other ipods and mp3 players, I ran one more wire to the back and up through the roll-bar where I made some custom brackets to hold my laptop, so I could watch surround sound movies with the seats down. Way cool! Those are all the main things I can remember. I really have loved this truck a ton. It has been really fun for me and I have had the toughest time trying to figure out if I should sell it or not. Things just have been going pretty crazy for me lately. I ended up moving up north and left my truck in Cedar. I have a car up north so my truck isn't needed anymore. I came back down to Cedar this week to either A, fix it, drive it back up north and sell it, or B, sell it down here as is. I am planning on selling it with everything in it, subs, ipod, snowboard/ski rack, etc. I also have the driveline and bolts for when a third member or ring and pinon is found, as well as a performance muffler (2" Dynomax through) that I was never able to install. Exterior and interior are in awesome shape so this would make for a perfect project for someone...
