1987 Toyota 4runner 22re

Hello Everyone,

This evening i will be deciding on going to purchase myself a winter beater, and after MUCH deciding i think ive got it. I am looking at a 87 4runner (convertible?) 5speed, 4cyl, with about 363,000km. The car seems pretty good and ive heard great things about the engine.

I have a company car, but this winter i have opt it out to drive something a little more fun, and in the past growing up ive owned many Toyotas and have been more then satisfied, ( 1989, 1991 toyota corolla GTS, 1989 Toyota Celica GTS, 1989 Supra Turbo, 1990 Supra turbo etc. ) and i have just finished paying off for my 2003 Lexus IS300, and ive already orderd the 2jzgte motor for the swap...and i might have a 2jzge just laying around, maybe that could fit into the 4runner?..

I just wanted to say hi and maybe get a couple ideas of the experience you guys have had with this truck.

The 1st gen 4Runners are the best IMO, I have 2 (84 and 89) in my garage right now.

Thats what ive been hearing! well i went to go look at that one, and i must say i was impressed, but for taking into consideration the work it may need for saftey and the price, i wasnt too happy. But if it wasnt for my friend being there i may have just bought it for the fact i couldnt stop staring at it and day dreaming.

The Truck was rough, but looked good, not a lot of rust..no gapping holes.. But the engine would stay idling it kept dying out, and im guess thats cause of teh alternator? and also the rear drivers side brake was gone, the shocks seem okay, and the alingment was really off. All this is all good to me and im sure with a car this old there should be ALOT more wrong for it. my issue was that i wanted him to lower the price a bit so i could get this car saftied, insured and on the road for under $1500. He was selling me the truck as is for $1100. and truck has 363,000km on it.

i asked him to lower it a bit but he seemed really firm, what do you guys think i should do? and how much do you think those repairs may cost me?
