1989 4Runner V6, Will not Hot Start, sometimes

Howdy!

So I have a 1989 4Runner V6, and sometimes, it will not start once its been on for a little bit.

But it is also very inconsistent. I have had it where I drove it 5 minutes and it wont start, and other times, ive driven hours with no issue.

When this happens, it seems to be related to heat (of course) and i was wondering if its common that certain contacts expand too much.

When this happens, you turn the key, and nothing happens, doesnt turn over or even try. Usually i have to wait anywhere from 30 - 90 minutes and it will work fine.

Its been difficult for my mechanic to reproduce and its not overly frequent this happens (maybe like 10-15% of the time).

Has anyone had these problems with 4r's of that general time frame?

Heat soaked ignition components. It is gonna be hard to figure out which unless it is not starting at time you are trying to trouble shoot. See if you can set up the coil like the thread below has it. If so then you at least will know what circuit to start looking at.

Does the engine crank when it doesn't want to start? It could be a starter system issue as well.

SV_Dude, samoanload's does not turn over so also has starting (cranking) system issue. I replied to post on pkinfinity's link.
