1989 runner timing chain damper

rightside damper broke off how vital is this part can i go without or will my chain eventually break? any suggestions or advice would be helpful 89 173k 2.4

You need to replace your timing chain kit not just the plastic driver's side guide,here is an earlier post of mine

The broken guide is a clue. The chain is worn and stretched. It will wear a hole thru the TC cover and you'll have a bigger problem.

Replace the entire TC set now.
