no yours will not fit without spacers or grinding

that thread will also show what wheel will fit without spacers or grinding. And regardless if the wheels do fit, without spacers etc, The 4runner spare tire/wheel will not
so my spare is now the original 5 star that does fit.

and now my studded snows are on matching 5 stars, they were mounted on your style

no spacers or grinding for me.

231 or 199's

Back when I decided to do this, I had the same challenges as you. All 4R's up to 98 had the split 3's (that's yours), after that, the LTD's came with a few options, the most popular being the "5 stars". As you're aware, the split 3's won't fit over the 231's but the later LTD rims all fit over the 231's.
I did some research back when I was wrestling with decision, and found a few guys that went with the 1/4" spacers. However, on the advice of others and making some measurements, I decided the 1/4" spacer was a bad idea. There are basically, 2 types of rims-- hub centric and lug centric. Most stock rims are hub centric where the rim seating and weight bearing are provided by a 1/4" lip on the hub which mate with the rim. If you put a 1/4" spacer on the hub you loose this weight and alignment point. the entire weight will now sit on the lugs--- which the stock rims weren't designed to do. It's probably fine, however I go off road and I didn't want to be the one to discover that this became a weak joint! As well as loosing this hub contact, you loose 1/4" lug thread depth. Not a great idea seeing that all weight will now be carried by the lugs! Others use 1.5 wheel spacers which is a totally different matter. These are designed with the hub lip and they utilize their own lugs. I didn't want to go with spacers, as there has been a couple of spacer failures (do a search on this site).
The other option--- grinding the inside of the rims--- really not a great idea...

I ended up replacing my rims with newer LTD's---- I paid $175 for 4 and sold my split 3's for $150. I refinished the new rims and painted them a colour I wanted.

I strongly advise you read through BFAD write up on this---- if you're interested in the 199's he mentions them in the thread. This is the gold standard on this conversion.

Hey Last question....

Is 13WE casting the same as S13WE?

Does the "S" note anything different

I think I am pretty sold on the 199 mm upgrade over changing wheels. I can source the parts for pretty cheap - and you are right, I am skiddish on the wheel spacers.

If you scroll down youll find a second diagram with #10 as the rotor. and #4 on the second diagram is for the ABS rotor.

Sorry, I don't really know about the S.
Depending how much effort you want to do, you can do it pretty cheap. I acquired my 13WL's from a wrecking yard for $20 ea, I soaked them in de-rusting solution, and re-built them. I think the seal kit was $25 total. and 4 coats of red engine enamel. Maybe $70 for both.

Ok, New 4runner owner.. Just bought 99 Limited, want to clarify 231mm will plug and play on stock 16" (5 star Toyota) rims, i dont want to grind anything... I got a toyota parts manager hookup this weekend and can get parts at cost...

so many threads my head is spinning and getting lost

I really dont want to spend $300+ on a new 199mm caliper, any other suggestions? ive found advanced auto eclipse, duralast reman, and ac delco reman, are cheaper options but still doing some research before i buy.
 
Just to confirm: The Amazon link at the top, are 231MM and will fit my 02 T4R with trimming the dust shields..? (I have the 16" 5 Spoker's)

Thoughts on this kit? All happy? Thanks for your input. JD
 
I did the 199 (WE) calipers and rotors with these wheels, no problems.

In hind sight, I probably should have got new wheels, and put my tires on it and got the 231's. BUT, the 199 mm's are a big improvement over the stock. the rotors are thicker, and i can feel i brake faster.
