1990 22re mystery wire.

I am a new 4runner owner and I am finishing up a project. I bought a 1990 runner and replaced the engine. I thought I did a good job of marking all of the wires when removing the old engine but I have this one wire that I can not find where it goes. Does anyone recognize it? The engine starts and runs fine beside the diesel sounding knocking that I have been told is normal for these engines. Anyway the next step is emissions so I wanted to make sure that this wire finds its home. Thanks in advance for any help.

Not too familiar with the late model 22RE wiring but it looks like it could be the temp sender. Located near the thermostat housing. If it is not that it could be one of two sensors pointing towards your radiator from the front of your lower intake plenum. If it isn't that then check your wiring harness on the passenger side, there are a few connections made on the harness low on the engine block (knock sensor) and lower going towards the transmission etc..

Still no luck. I know I didn't have any loose when I started.

I'm in the process of tearing down my 88 for a head gasket repair. I'll keep my eye out for a connector that looks like this... unless you figured it out.

I can't see a wire that looks like this on mine. However a friend of mine who has done several swaps on these says it looks like the A/C compressor connector. Hope that helps.

My guess would be for and AUX fan... Part of the A/C system I would bet!
