1990 3.0 speedometer problem

I have a 1990 3.0 and the speedometer went out. When this happened I got the o/d light flashing. When I push the o/d button the light stays solid. Is there a sensor connecting the too.

The plastic gear that the speedo cable hooks to in the trans goes bad. Unscrew the cable under the vehicle and spin it by hand while someone watches your speedo. If the speedo moves then its probably the gear. It the speedo doesnt move then its your cable of cluster.
The o/d light is probably just from lack to speed sensor signal
