1990 3.0 water pump replacement

Water pump leakin and going to replace myself. (first time) I had a shop replace the timing belt about 20,000 ago and not willing to pay the big $$$
I've done a search and gotten some info. I was looking for advice on procedure. I do have a chiltons manual for what its worth. Any advice or links would be greatly appreciated.

take your time dont rush, and make sure you clean all the parts really well before you put them back togather

I agree with bad vision, make sure you have an ample amount of time to do the job. When I put a pump, belt, and idlers on mine I made sure to group the bolts all together and label them as I took them out. I also laid out a tarp next to my 4Runner and as I pulled parts off I laid them out in succession so it was easier to assemble later. Finally when your pulling the bolts from the cover, and fan idler assembly make sure you label where each bolt came from, because most of them are specific sizes and lengths. Oh one more thing if you need to pull the harmonic balancer off you can put a breaker bar and socket on the crank bolt and rest it on the drivers side frame rail, and then, with somebody watching, burp the starter and it will break loose the bolt, it is much easier then using an impact gun. Water Pump Done !

I replaced the water pump and thermostat. It wasnt to to bad, just time consuming. I also I'm glad I did it myself because the place (KP automotive) that did the timing belt a year ago should have replaced the water pump. They also left a couple of bolts loose and the timing belt tensioner should have been tighter. THEY SUCK ! I didnt have to pull the crank pulley to remove the water pump, which made this job a little easier. Thanks to all the feedback !
