1990 Have crazy noise from front left tire

When I hit bumbs in the road I get a loud sound coming from my left front tire. It almost sounds like something is rubbing on the tire but that is not it. Sometimes it lasts a while and sometimes it comes and goes quickly. Usually never happens a higher speeds and always goes away when i slow down to below 10 miles mph or so.. ANY SUGGESTIONS??

My dad had the same problem if I'm understanding you correctly. His was a bad U-joint. It left like it was in the front too on his. I thought he had to get his tires rebalanced but it was a U-joint..( He has a 99 toyota tacoma)

Soo go see if thats it cost him around 500-900$ to have the dealer do it.

If the noise is from the front tire, it could be a wheel bearing, if it's 4WD could be the CV joint (although they usually make noise when steering is at full lock), maybe something with the brake caliper. Have you jacked up the front and looked around ?

My 94 had all kinds of noise coming from underneath the front on several occasions. The first time it was simply I had a shock nut come loose and the shock was banging around. Easy fix. Then later on I noticed a sound that started to come from the front end but could never pin point it because it sounded like it was coming from both sides. So, I took it to a shop and they said it was the passenger side axle and also mentioned that it was common for that side to go out. So, I replaced both axles and within a day the noise started back again. I was really frustrated as to what was causing the noise. I took it back in and after cruising it up and down the parking lot for 20 minutes with my mechanic in and also out of the vehicle we realized it was definately on the passenger side even though it still sounded like it was comming from both sides while driving.

Anyway, long story short, it turns out that there is a brass component somewhere near and around the bearing that was totally worn out. The axle would sort of bounce around in that area while driving around 30 MPH and get a little louder as I slowed down. It was hard to detect but finally got it fixed. Now it is as solid as ever. I recommend the driving it around in the parking lot with someone outside listening for sounds. Listening from the driver's seat can be miss leading as the sounds like to echo or travel around the vehicle.
