1990 Rear Window Probs

Our 1990 V6 SR5 Rear Window stopped cooperating. It won't go down via the exterior (key) switch or the interior console button.

All fuses and the relay adjacent to the fuses are OK. I can hear a faint click from the back gate panel when I press the console window button, but nothing else happens.

If I open up the panels to gain access to the rear door mechanisms and unplug the power connection to the window motor, I can then open or close the window by directly connecting 12 volts to the motor side of the connector (alternating polarity to go up or down).

Weirdly enough, if I lower the window with the above technique, I can then use the key switch or the console button to RAISE it! I just can not lower it anymore.

Any ideas?

Oh Heck!

I learned the hard way that the problem was that the rear wiper was not completely parked!

(If the rear wiper isn't completely parked, the rear window will NOT operate (either control option).

I ran, then turned off the rear wiper--this time, it parked all the way, in spite of a bent rear wiper. Now I can open and close the rear window.

DOH!

I replaced the wipers and made sure that all were running (and parking) correctly.

Hope this little gem of stupidity helps others.

Same Here and I did notice that the rear wiper has never parked right... Also gonna give that a shot! Thanks

my rear wiper is all the way up and it still wont go down.

Same here i hooked up the battery last night and tried it still no love. I was reading somewhere else on here on a sequoia < sorry if i butchered that. They say that the gears in the back get gummed up and u have to take off the back pannel and mess with them.

Mine works up and down BUT not all the way up, when it gets about 1 inch left to the top it stops and then I can hear some ticking noise, maybe some teeth broke.

Any ideas, please?
