I did some searching across the forum, but decided ultimately to see if the veterans could offer any advice.
Over the summer, I had purchased a 1990 SR5 with at the time had 190,000 off of a buddy for a hundred bucks. (6 months prior he bought another 1990 and decided he needed to get rid of the one) Aside from there being some mild exterior rust on the fenders, the hitch being unusable due to some a** break-checking while being pulled out of a ditch during some fun in the snow, and some much needed new tires, the T4R is in from what I can tell good condition. The transfer case is clean as is the rear differential. My friend had not had any issues with it aside from a slight loss of power over the years.
The break lines went out the day I physically had the keys in my hand - promptly replaced them. Swapped out the muffler a few weeks after, and just this Feb 1st got new tires.
I anticipate more problems creeping up on me due to the age of the vehicle, like a short I believe is occurring inside the dash (Acc plug/Cigaret lighter is not working anymore - fuses are fine however) and the sunroof drive assembly cable broke while closing which will be looked at after the winter passes. Any help would be appreciated on these two topics...
I would also like to know f I should investigate anything else, or be aware of things to look for, since I am new to the T4R being a '89 TurboTransAm owner (and general muscle enthusiast) and have very little knowledge about this so far very good automobile. Thanks!
