19904Runner Purchase Advice

Greetings.
I'm looking to downsize from my 96 Burban on 35s to a Toyota.

Found a 1990 4runner 4x4 on 35s locally for $3350. 138,0000 miles, paint is somewhat faded, cloth seats, stock axles and gears, original tranny and engine-don't know if headgasket recall was done. 3.0 V6 Auto

Didn't drive it yet, but am considering it.

I'm a Jeep/Chevy guy-so I need some answers from Toyota people.

Will the axles hold up? With lockers?

Whats the tranny/engine life typically?

I should get pretty horrible gas mileage as the truck is set up currently, correct?

Good deal, run away, potential issues, someone throw me a friggin bone here.

I'd go to autotrader.com and do a search for 2nd gen '90-'95 4Runners and see what comes up - that way you'll at least have something to compare it to pricewise.

I havn't had any problems with my axles, and the engine holding up well (Its a '93 3.0 V6) i get approx 14.5 mpg and i think thats pretty average. the biggest problem i have is damn rust. that and i changed the battery a few years ago. Also alot of people have problems where the tailgate window won't work, that happened to me as well.

35's with stock gears and an auto trans is not a good setup.
You will loose major power and MPG will suck. That setup needs 5.71 gears, your stocks are probably 4.56.

Rear axle will hold up fine, fronts will too unless you do a lot of rockcrawling, then expect CV joints to go now and then.

What was done suspension wise to fit 35's? If it was just cranking the t-bars in the front and blocks in the rear or something like that, run away.
