New to the Yota family.......bought a 1991 4 runner, and noticed the oil pressure being low...like real low......at idle after motor gets warm, and to a normal operating temp it is literally on the "L" mark. When accelarating, and at cruising speed it is on the first mark after the "L".

I started doing research, and am reading that this is fairly normal, and is normally the gauge not functioning properly, and/or the sending unit may need replacing. I'm ok w/ that, as I hear that the motor isn't offering any indication that it's starving for oil, knocking etc.......Then i look in the owners manual....(yes I have the orig. owners manual) and the diagram shows that at idle it is normal to be on the "L" mark after warming...........Am I freaking out or just have a 91 in "normal" shape??

Thanks

Mine does the same thing. I thought something was wrong, but then I did a search last night and found that it seems to be a fairly common "problem." As long as mine keeps running strong I'm not going to worry about it.

rebuilt engine same results

I juat a rebuilt 3.0 put in . On the first extended drive , after the intial break in period, I have the same oil pressure reading while cruising. At first I was quite concerned, but after checking the oil level it was good to go.

I just purchased a 95 -4runner with 155,000 miles...and it doesnt do that...

reads at about 3/4 hi on the gauge when driving and at about 1/2 when sitting at idle.

Did you fill your oil all the way up to the full mark on the dipstick ? Some people only go to the halfway mark on the dipstick.

This is normal for the 3.0, welcome to the forum.

You mean this is yet another " defect" or " negative" of the 4 runners , that we must come to accept or overlook ?

Those 4runner engineers must have been garbage collectors before they became part of the toyota 4runner team.

Pretty much.
