1991 4runner dies after HIDs installed!!!

Hey guys, just installed an HID lighting kit on my 4runner. After removing the battery, windsheild washer reservoir, coolant reservoir and airbox, installing the HID kit and putting everything together again, the lights turn on (and work great) but my truck wont turn over. The battery indicator light comes on and that is it.
I did some forum searching and found it may be the battery connections are not passing enough current. I cleaned the terminals with sand paper and put them back on, still nothing. under the hood there is an 80A fuse that looks blown to me (EFI fuse?) i cannot get it out, i believe it may be bolted in somehow. Ill start with trying to replace this one. Does anyone know how to get this thing out?

Any other ideas?

I got the 80A fuse (says ALT on the fuse box diagram) out. it was hard. you have to remove the fuse box from the body, remove the bottom (snaps off) and pull the fuse out from the bottom. The wires to the fuse are actually bolted to the legs of the fuse.

Then i noticed my 40A fuse was blown, im off to go get more.. well see if it blows again.

note: when removing and connecting the wires to the battery, it arcs more than i remember happening on other vehicles ive worked on. Is this a sure sign ive f***ed some wiring up on the HID install? maybe i ran a screw through some wires? or is arcing common when connecting wires to the battery?

There is typically some arcing when you connect the batt cable, depending on what in the vehicle is turned ON drawing a load when you do it.

The fuses that don't pull out from the top are called fuseable links, BTW.
If any fuse blows again, disconnect the power to the HIDs and start troubleshooting.

i just put a new 40a fuse in and it blew right away... ill try disconnecting the lights..

just disconnected the power off the battery for the HID system, put in a new 40a fuse and 'pop' right away, no keys in the ignition.

when i installed the HID system i attached the ballasts which are metal boxes to the body with metal strap using sheet metal screws. I figured maybe i ran a screw through some wires behind the body panel (which scared the s**t out of me) and that what was why fuses where popping.... so we pulled those out, and put a new fuse in and.... it didnt pop!

I started my truck up just fine.. such a relief.

I reconnected the lights to the battery and now they wont turn on, we never disconnected any connections in the HID system, just pulled the ballasts off the body panel. I am wondering if they were grounding out on the body somehow? and thats what was causing the fuse issues?

When i turn my lights on and off, an audible click is heard from the fuse box under the hood. The clicking is coming from a relay labeled "HEAD" on the fuse box diagram. but no light action...

any ideas??

the high beams also do work on the HID system and on the regular factory toyota lights. I am not getting power to the low beams.

maybe its wired incorrectly. start all over on the hid install. use a power harness.
