1991 toyota 4runner build question

Hey guys im fairly new here I own a 91 with the 3.0 v6 with auto tranny. I have had it for about 10 years and eventually just stopped driving it because if I went over 70mph or pulled a small trailer the a/t temp light would come on. The transmission was rebuilt and probably only has a few k miles on it. Any way im wanting to get it back to a everyday driver. The motor is weak and I suspect it needs an overhaul. Should I invest in getting the more I have rebuilt or is the 3.0 even worth it. Also my friend has a 22re he will give me with all the wiring harnesses but im pretty sure it wont bolt right up. Being mine is a 4wd and his wasn't. So what do you all think? Any and all suggestions welcome. I just want it back running properly again. Gotta love a toyota. Its beensitting in my field for several years and I just put a hot battery in it and it starts right up. Just running real rough but I know its probably bad gas. But the 3.0 has 350k miles on it. Thanks guys

I would rebuild the 3.0, install intake header's and exhaust so you don't burn up exhaust valves and maybe some cam's.

I agree with the 4runner kid, Rebuild it. It's the cheapest way around it. However if you have a complete donor truck for the 22RE then that would be the way i go. Complete meaning motor, trans, ECM for motor, ECM for trans since auto. The 22RE from the 4x2 will work if you change out the oil pan. Doing this swap is the long way.

I would just rebuilt the 3.0

Oh okay I gotcha. I thought you meant intake manifold when u said intake header but I gotcha now. Is there anyway to beef it up a bit other than that?

Hey guys just new hear have a 91 4runner girlfriend had an accedent in it just woundering if there is any other 4x4 that I can use parts of to fix it up cheers

I've never had an issue with any 3VZE's i have owned in my life, called taking care of them.

That's cool and all...but how much gain did you get out of the 3.0, and how much did it cost you to get there with the above mentioned parts? Dollar for dollar the gains you would see from a 5VZ swap would far eclipse even a massively modded 3VZ.

I understand that a bigger motor would be great but rebuilding the motor I have would be much cheaper than purchasing a new one. Also does it bolt right up or do I have to get a new wiring harness and mounts?

Got my header's and head's ported and polished for free. So it was next to nothing to build. I would rather keep the 3.0.

I only mentioned it because in your first post you seemed interested in in swapping in your friends 22RE. If I were to do any swap it would be for the 5VZ or 1GRFE.
