1991 V6 4runner, KNOCK SENSER error 52

I am getting Error 52 on the engine check light, it says Knock Senser. Where do I find it on the motor and how do I test it ?

When I start the car it's fine, when I drive off it's fine, but around the first gear change the engine light comes on and the motor loses power.

Should I start with checking the timming or is the error related to a fault with the senser.

I have the same problem but had the knock sensor replaced when I had a rebuilt engine put in. Love to hear what the solution to this is.

After stacks of reading, the error seems to be an open circuit (ie: broken wire or unplugged connector).

Preignition and other rattles around the motor dont trigger error 52, the ECU looks after that, the error is a hardware issue with the wiring or the sender itself.

So, now I have to find someone to check it for me, im not physicaly about to do it.

After watching the video about the types of knock sensors and testing for a reading at 7khz, I was thinking a loud speaker sitting on the motor and have a laptop generate a 7khz sound.

I'm up for an externaly mounted one just do away with the hard work.
