1992 4runner sputtering

hey so I have a 1992 4runner, 5 speed manual, 4 cyl, 22re. I just got it this weekend and I've noticed some issues. (already have to get the CV joints done)
Occasionally when I turn it on, it will sputter then die. I have to turn it back on around 3 times to get it going.
Another thing is when I am going to the road, at random times the truck will lunge/jerk a bit.
Anyone know what these issues might be?

Have you check battery/alternator..
Is your engine light on? Have you check air filters, maf, throttle body for build up. How old are your igition wire and plugs? What are your compression like? Any smoke from the exhaust?

Do a full tuneup and clean out your intake and tb.

I will definitely be doing that asap! didn't know if it was a bigger issue that I wasn't aware of or what the deal was but I'm going to do a tune up of everything

Lots of stuff could cause that. I agree with Tyota89, do a full tuneup. Plugs, wires, cap, fuel filter, timing, etc. If you're feeling ambitious it wouldn't hurt to set your valve lash and get the injectors cleaned too.
