1992 Auto 3.0 V6 4x4 Torque Converter problem?

Hi, my 92 4R is having some problems with, what I think is, the torque converter. Ill start off in O/D and it seems like when it is supposed to shift into 3rd gear it jumps into neutral and the rpms shoot up. Also I got it up to 90mph on the highway and then when I let the speed come down to about 70 or 75 and then hit the accelerator with moderate pressure it did the same thing - shot up in rpms and would not get back into gear until I pulled off and turned the truck off and then on again. keep in mind the whole time im in O/D. That was about 3 weeks ago and it stoped acting up until just yesterday. What could have and be causing this? TPS? Torque converter? Shift Solenoid? Any help is much appreciated!
