1993 22r 4runner High Fuel consumption

Have a 1993 22r 2.4 petrol 4runner......about a month ago put 265/75/16 (around 32s) muddys on her.......at around the same time I was having problems with the car cutting out.......I pulled the carby apart and did a rebuild......but problem persisted......I later found out that it was the fuel filter.

My problem is that now my car has gone from using about 11 ltrs per 100km to about 16-18 ltrs per 100kms. I don't know weather it is the larger tyres of the carby rebuild. I also broke the auto choke wire when doing the rebuild and have wired the choke butterfly in the carby open.

Can someone pls help........any suggestions welcome........it is a pretty old 4x4 needs has an ongoing to do list......whats stuff I can fix/check to keep the fuel consumption low

Thats pretty crazy, not your milage but the carb. My 89 had a 22re, fuel injected, I actually thought they quite putting carbureted motors in their trucks when they came out with the RE. I had 31x10.50's on 15x8 steelies and I would regularly get between 20 and 25 mpg.

It is a pretty small engine so any changes in axle weight will really be noticeable.

A choke lets more fuel in to the throttle body, so yes that would use more, that much more maybe, maybe not, but coupled with the fact that you now have larger tires, which are also heavier, could be the difference.

You know your speedo/odo has changed too. You are judging by same distance driven point A to B and not by your odometer for those 100km? You are actually driving further in those 100km with bigger tires if you are judging strictly by the odometer.
