1993 Cold transmission is locked in low range

I have a problem when the transmission is cold. It is a 4X4 with an automatic transmission. Even if you let the motor warm up the transmission appears to be stuck in low range until the transmission warms up. The transmission shifts fine, only by the time its in high gear I'm pushing 3000 RPMs at 30 MPH. After the transmission warms up (about 3 miles) it works correctly. It is not in 4-low because when I shift into 4-low I hear it engage. I took it to the dealer and they serviced the transmission and changed the transmission cable that connects to the throttle body. It did not help. I don't want some rookie learning about transmission problems on my 4Runner. Does anyone have any suggestions?

It is the OD system it will not shift into overdrive untill the engine warms up.this is normal for the 3.0L V6.

Someone over on Yotatech had a fix for it, if I can find it I will post for you.

Mine does it too, but does not bother me I do no highway driving with mine from a cold start just backroads.

You are talking about not having the 4WD engaged right?
