1993 rear window issue

I have a 93 4runner the rear window goes down with key and switch, internitantly goes up with the key, and with some playing around with the relay in the window it will go up with 2 people one touching the inside of the door and the other hitting the switch. going up is the problem. HELP

I have an 86, and from what I know, systems are similar....The Rear wiper is electrically tied into it, so if your wiper is not parking right, that could cause the window to not work right. I fiddled with mine for awhile, replaced the switch, the lock-out button, and the hard top safety switch, only to discover that my rear wiper isn't parking right! After researching the cost of a rear wiper motor..(WOW!) I just get out and park it manually! Good luck.

I have been having a similar problem with the rear window in my 1993. Front switch works for up and down, but the key switch only works for the up motion. The relay never even clicks when I try to turn the key.

I have replaced the relay and the key switch....still no luck though.

Anyone know why this might be happening?

I have the Toyota wiring diagrams for the power rear window and rear wiper, if anyone would be willing to host them.

I just bought a 90 4runner and ive got the same problem, except my back window won't go down at all, which means i can't open the tailgate..anyone know what might be causing this and how i can fix it?

Do you hear the power window and rear wiper relay click at all when you try to put the window down? It is located behind the rear driver side panel. You should hear it make a clicking noise when you push the switch. You could have a number of problems, such as a bad motor, bad relay, or faulty wiring.

Nope no clicking noise, it doesn't respond at all. I tried rolling it down with the key and that doesn't work either.

If you have a 1st Gen (84-89) 4Runner, there are several things that can keep your window from rolling down. If it does not roll up or down, begin the following checklist.

1 - ensure that the tailgate is completely closed all the way
2 - ensure that the rear wiper is fully seated in its resting position
3 - ensure that the "window lock" switch is not engaged
4 - ensure that the wiring harness by the rear cargo panel is attached
5 - ensure that the proper grounding bolt has been screwed in. One of the 14 bolts completes a grounding circuit which tells your truck that the top is on. This bolt is located in the driver side rear cargo area. It is the 2nd bolt from the back. If this bolt is not screwed in, the rear window will not operate since it thinks the top is off.

If none of these work, I would test the switches. If it still doesnt work, I would test the relay. If that doesnt work, it almost certainly is the motor.

My rear window just stopped on my 95, and after opening everything up out in the 100 degree heat, I came and checked here. Turns out it was the rear wiper not parked in right spot. Turned wiper on and off and works great now!!

My window works fine when it is not cold or wet outside....
what does that tell you?

Window won't go up.

The rear window in my 89 will go down with the dash switch or key but not up.. It was intermittent but now just won't go up. I took off the rear panel and cleaned the connections which were very corroded and it seemed better but now just won't go up. I can hear the relays clicking so I'm assuming it's from there back that I have a problem. Also the "rear door open " light on my dash won't go out. Where is the switch that regulates this??? Thanks. Glenn

I have been having the same problem, but I have a trick that seems to work most of the time. I didn't know about parking the wiper arm, so I will definitely keep that in mind. My window always goes down, and it is the up that seems to be an issue. For some reason, if I use the internal switch instead of the key and hit down instead of up, it seems to reset something and then I can roll it up. Maybe a bad switch, but it works 90% of the time.

I have a similar problem with by 1994. Rear window goes up and down with key no problem Goes down okay with center console switch, but it will not go up with the center console switch... Frustrating to say the least

I'm having sorta the same problem on my 94. Goes up and down but stops and wait 30 seconds then hit the button again and it works again. Have to do it 3 or 4 times for it to go all the way down or up.

I would think if it works with the key but the console switch is start stop then cleaning the switch might help

I have a manual for the 93 4runner and it has vague instructions for windows from the side door glass, quarter glass and rear. Which or all?
