1993 steering relay rod recall

I just received a recall notice for my 1993 4-Runner. Toyota wants to replace the steering relay rod. Have any of you folks had this service done? Is it a big deal? I would hate for some local service person to thrash my 185,000 mile, one owner, grey, 5-speed. Any thoughts? Thanks for your help, it is greatly appreciated. FYI, I did buy a new 2005 with a V8 for long highway trips to the mountains to snowboard.

The recall has been out for about 4 months here in Australia. They replace the complete rod plus all of the ball joints. Get it done as most of the ones here have had cracks in them.

Btw, I haven't heard of anyone saying theirs had any damage at all except for the guy above me. It's a purely preventative measure on Toyota's part...

I remember getting a letter from Toyota, but didn't do anything about it yet. I will probably take it in after reading the threat on Yotatech. I just had my idler arm replaced with bushings so they won't try to ding me there.

I just got the letter from toyota last week so the campaign is definitely still open. If you're thinking of putting it off for a while, I'd call Toyota and see how long it will be open.
