1994 3VZE-engine removal

AK4runner

I posted quite awhile back on replacing my engine(3VZE) with one from a Tacoma-I have to settle with going with 3VZE Short Block; I'm in the middle of taking the engine out....does the tranny have to come out too? as one unit?..if so...crap.

book says trany comes out with engine.

I've been looking at the ...situation...and have about half of everything needing to be disconnected...disconnected and labeled-and it is looking like...the units will not separate "in-car"

If someone could tell me simply that trany HAS to come out with engine-that's what I will do;...but if trannny can stay-that'd be great..........but it's lookin tighter than a flea in a big ball of fur and separation is not possible.

TIA - and Happy Easter to ALL!!!!

Remove the motor out of the 4Runner without the tranny. After that, drop the tranny out from the bottom of the truck with drivelines disconnected. Drop your front differential. When you install your new motor, bolt the tranny up to it OUTSIDE the truck. use a cherry picker to put the motor/tranny back in the truck. If you dont drop your front diff, youll be in for trouble trying to get your transfer case arond it. Let me know if you need anymore help, I did a 3VZ-E to 3VZ-E swap in my 93.

if you have an auto it can be done w/o pullin the xmsn havent done a 5 speed yet but i dont see why i couldnt be dont also...if you want detailed instructions drop me a PM

Doing a V6 5 spd to V6 Auto Swap

I am new to the board, but in need of advice. I acquired a 91 V6 Manual 4 Runner for its engine. The eninge will be swapped into my 91 V6 auto.

I have everything pretty much disconnected to do the pull from the donor. I plan on removing the engine/tranny as a unit.

My quandry is on the other vehicle, it would be great if I could just pull the engine and leave the tranny/driveline in place. I saw mention that it is possible to do. But the manual makes no mention. What gymnastics are require to separate the engine from an auto tranny in car (what about the oil cooler lines??) Does the torque converter stay with the tranny or do you unbold it from the flex plate in car?

Thanks, Chris
