I found a 1994 4cyl 4 runner for sale, excellent condition ( he says) , 113,000 miles, power windows locks, etc.

I live in the mountains in the Eastern Sierra near Mammoth Lakes, CA and do a lot of of freeway driving with hills.

I have the same engine in a base model 2wd pickup and it really has to work on grades.
I know it would great off road, but is the 4cyl 4 runner going to drive me nuts?

I am interested in the 4 cyl.
for the gas mileage and reliability.

Plus, the guy wants almost 7k for it, and I have to drive 3 hours to see it, so I thought I would get some opinions from those who have experience with the 2nd gen 4cyl.

Thanks

Prices for used vehicles vary thru out the country. Their really high in the Pacific NW, which I think is your area more or les.
But even then $7K seems way too high to me. 113K mi is low for a 14 yr old truck, but still that sounds like too much.

Does it have a 5 spd or auto? The auto robs the 22RE of power.

I have an 84 with a 22R (carbed, not EFI like the 22RE).
Even with 165K mi, and 36" tires, I still get 20 MPG or so. The EFI engine has more HP and better MPG.

It is a 5 speed. I wouldn't buy a 4cyl auto.
I agree the price is too high.
The owner works at a dealership and he snagged it from the original owner when he brought it in for a trade, so the story goes.
I have the feeling he won't take less than 6K for it.
