I am new to this site and seriously could use some advice. I own a 1994 4Runner 4x4 Manual 5 Speed and I recently took it out mudding and it was covered. I went to wash it and decided to hit the motor pretty hard to get it clean again. Litte did I know that the distributor cap was damaged and cracked. After washing down the motor the truck started intermittently and would only run for a few seconds before stalling out again. The tach jumps from 1000 to around 3500 RPM's and the motor does not change RPM's at all it is only on the guage itself that it cannot read the RPM's. I took the distibutor cap off and I found a very small amount of moisture within the cap and aired it out. I then allowed the truck to sit overnight assuming that if moisture was the issue it would dry out and be solved by the morning. However this was not the case. When I first turn it over it starts and runs for a few minutes but will end up stalling out on its own or as soon as I put it in gear and attempt to go anywhere. It will go about 2 to 3 feet in gear before it stalls. I am going to test the distributor air gap and test the crankshaft position sensor tomorrow night once i get my tester back from a buddy. Any opinions will help. I am open to any suggestions so please let me know your thoughts. I have been a classic chevy guy all my life and this is my first toyota so my knowledge is limited.
