1994 Cup Holder Question

My '94 has the pull-out cupholders. The bottom part comes down too far so drinks pretty much just fall through the hole. I remember that it used to have a small metal piece on each side (looked somewhat like an S-hook) and slide back and forth to make the bottom piece stay up.

I bought a narrow piece of iron rod at home depot today so that I can make my own pieces to fit this. I would really really appreciate it if somebody could post up a picture of what the little metal pieces look like and about how long/wide they are so I can get it done right!
