1994 SR5 V6...Help me!

My 1994 SR5 V6 has 196000 miles on it. I have driven it pretty hard and the engine is starting to lose it. Serious knocking and power loss. I took it to the shop and they said it needs to be rebuilt or have a new engine put in.

What should I do to get the most value out of this car. Everything else about it is great. New tires a year ago. No other major problems.

How do you find a buyer in a situation like this???

BTW, I am buying a Black 2005 Sport V8. I love the 4Runners....love 'em.

What about using it as a trade in? I had an engine rebuilt in a Subaru once, and it was pretty expensive. I would generaly only do that if I was going to keep the car for a while longer. You should be able to find a buyer if you put up adds localy and on the internet, the big question would be how much you would be able to get for it.

Well, I just got a great price from a dealer on a 2005 Galactic Gray 4x4 Sport V8. loaded. He quoted me a price "out the door". If I take his price and work backwards assuming he is charging me invoice for the car, he is giving me $1500 for my trade in.

Seems like it is a good deal....????

Doesn't sound too bad. Depending on the rest of the vehicles condition, you *might* be able to get a bit more from a private party, but then you have to deal with the hassle of trying to sell it.

I got him to give me $2000 for the trade. I am now the proud owner of a 2005 4Runner Sport 4x4 V8.

The 1994 was great. Tires that were a year old, all the extras that were available on a SR5 at the time. The driver seat had taken a beating and the front hood had a lot of paint wear from the hood shield rubbing against it.

The engine was hopeless. Needed at the very least $2500 in service (the dealer told me it would cost me $5500-$7500).

I am happy to gradute into the 4th gen.

Glad it all worked out for you.....but $7500 for the dealer to do the engine...please you would have to be crazy.

Excellent! $2000 is a much better deal. Their engine estimate was awfuly high though, good thing you didn't have them do that. The last time I had an engine rebuilt, it cost a little over $1500.
