1995 4runner drivetrain roar

I recently purchased a1995 4runner for my daughter. When you get up to around 50mph it has a noise that I cannot detect. It sounds like it is coming from the rearend or possibly a wheel bearing. When I am running about 60 and let off the gas it is a little louder. I can bump it out of gear and it still does it. More noticeable when I let off of the gas than when accelerating. It has 150,000 miles on it. Have any of you experienced this.

The first place I would check would be the universal joints. Also check for pinion gear movement (in and out). It should not move. Then it's axle bearings or tires

Getting louder when you let off the gas is a sign of a differential going bad I think... But it very well could be ujoints too.

I'd change the rear diff fluid right away to help keep the damage to a minimum, but once you hear it it's shot. Good news is that it won't leave you stranded for a while so you can take your time finding a new 3rd member in the same gear ratio. When the noise gets so loud you can't stand it, or if you start hearing some clunking in there it's time to change it.

Try jacking up the rear of the truck and spinning the drive shaft to see if it will help you pinpoint it. If you can't figure it out have someone look at it that can before you spend any real money.

If you do decide you need a new 3rd member, check the classified ads at yotatech, ttora and pirate 4x4 for a good cheap replacement.
