1995 stuck in 4wd high

Hey guys, I searched and found some threads but nothing exactly like this.

Just bought a '95 4Runner 22RE 5 speed. Last night I was driving it around my block and pulled it into 4wd. I wasn't sure if it was shift on the fly or not, my 80 series wasn't so I stopped and after a little fumbling got it into gear. Now, I can't get it out. I've tried shifting at different speeds and stopped. Clutch in and out. I'm stumped. The stick feels all wobbly and loose with some spots that seem like gates. It is definitely in 4 high. Any ideas of what's going on or input on what your t case shifter feels like? Thanks a lot!

Did you try reverse? My '89 hates coming out of 4wd (almost like he mnows we are leaving the trail) and it takes some rocking back and forth on occasion to let the tension off the driveline. Add an extra pain in the aesr since yours has the ADD system.....

Seems normal so far. If there's any binding, can be difficult to get it out of 4wd. Like junkyardbiker said.. reverse, and sometimes short s turns, followed by straightening out the wheels, and trying to put it back in 2wd at the same time.

Hey guys thanks for the input. Didn't try reverse yet. What is the stick supposed to feel like? Are yours floppy like mine? (That's what he said)

I guess I don't know if I'm pushing the stick properly because it seems like there's a couple different gates. Sorry I know it's a dumb question. I'm a real 4wd noob today.

Mines pretty firm through the gates for having close to 500k on it, maybe you popped the linkage loose or something. Does it move through the pattern? Any firm "notches" or any feeling of resistance?

Hey guys thanks for all the input, I figured it out. The snap ring that holds the linkage in place had popped loose. I'll post pics tonight after my baby goes to sleep but it was a pretty easy fix. I just took the 4 bolts out of the shifter cover and reassembled everything, bolted it back in place. Shifter is so perfect now, I think previous owner must have popped this loose because now it feels like I expected. Thanks to all!
