1996 4 runner aging issues...

Hello All,

First time poster and yes, my 4runner needs help :hail:- nothing serious I am sure.

The truck runs well with just a few immediate issues:

1: All four power windows are getting slow - rear passenger is starting to groan. What can I do? Replace the power window motors maybe?

2: Power locks act funny. If I just press the lock switch momentary they lock. Anything longer and they chatter and interior lights go dim. Maybe a funky relay?

3: Door weather stripping is starting to rot out. It looks like they are installed and pinched in place by metal tabs?

Is any of this a DIY project? Sources for parts?

Thanks in advance, and look forward to possibly helping someone else.

Welcome to the forum!
I find it highly unlikely that you would need to replace all 4 window motors. It is likely more of an issue with the voltage reaching those motors.

All the systems you mentioned... Interior lights, power windows, and the power door locks all share use of the same relay/module box called the "integration relay" though. Google it because it is not your average relay.

Just trying to share a little info. Going further will require a bit of electrical diagnostics and a pretty good understanding of those systems.

Thanks! Do these combination/multiple symptoms point to this relay going bad?

I'd figure out why your windows are all slow before worrying about anything else. Fix that voltage issue and it all probably straightens out. Is it like this both with engine on and off? How about engine off and headlights on? What is battery voltage with engine off and engine running? What does a battery load test show? These are questions you need to answer before effing with the integration relay.

How is the back (liftgate) window? It gets its power from a separate circuit from the other four, but the trigger comes from the Body ECU as the others do. Should be a clue.
