1996 4runner frame repair and swap.

Hey guys I'm finally getting around to fixing a spare frame I bought for my 96
Started today by removing the front diff and hubs.
Frame is headed to be sandblasted next Monday! Although this frame needs repair as well it is far less work to swap this frame then fix the trucks existing frame.

Looks like I'll be doing a body lift at the same time any recommendations?

Wow, how bad is your current frame? That one is pretty raunchy, especially that rear control arm mount and rear shock mount.

I just left the front diff in place until I had the frame out. No need to pull it first; that's a pain.

Like The Durk said, that one is pretty bad. It makes mine with 16 NY winters under its belt look new. If you're a competent welder with plenty of time on your hands then go for it. I'd look for a frame or a whole truck from the Southwest.

wow, i lucked up and got a rolling frame for $300 that was mint. Hard to come by but much easier to fool with. i had a 98 that was rotted and did full restore on it. lots of work but done right, youll never have to do it again... unless someone hits you.

if your using that frame, go ahead and replace the rear shock mounts also. But damn dude..... find a better frame bud, its not worth it!

Did you see his screen name? Joke....my father in law does stuff like this all the time, because he enjoys the work and end result. But doing it for someone else, would be a no go.

Just weld in some rebar in the problem areas and you'll be good to go!

JK that's a terrible idea but I've seen it done on the redneck machines in my area.

Sorry for the double thread post apparently Tapatalk sucks.

My father owns a machine shop, I have been welding since 10 years old. The frame is in great shape compared to any others I have seen in the area. The shock mount was not bad it was just a catch all for rust flakes lol. When I post pictures of the sandblasted frame we will see then how bad it is.
