1996 sunroof not closing totally - help?

Anyone have a suggestion for why the sunroof of my 1996 SR5 is not fully closing?
Two button system.

It will slide open and close, but, on retracting, it will close to the point where it starts to lift up into the final resting spot and then comes up about 3/4 inch short of fully closing flush with the roof.

Not a leak problem as any rain still funnels into the drains, but the wind noise on the highway is really annoying.

The Tilt button is not responsive, but I think that is because there is a sensor which cuts that switch out unless the sunroof window has returned to the fully closed (i.e., "up") position. (Yes?/No?)

Any thoughts/help?

Hmmm...tough one....

First see if anything is in the way, like maybe an acorn or something.

Maybe the limit switches are mis - aligned and it thinks it is fully closed?

Maybe it thinks something is in the way and a limit switch cuts it off?

Thats where I would start.

I bet there is something that is preventing the air deflector from retracting all the way

I've actually been having this exact problem with my '96 as well. The way I have been dealing with it is to use the tilt button to raise the glass up just above what would make it closed and then push it down a little bit so it sits flush with roof. Obviously this isn't a really good solution but does cut down on wind noise if you're on the freeway or highway. Haven't found a long term solution yet. I need to find a new interior sliding cover for mine too. The one I have is all chewed up.

Thanks for the suggestions all. I'll try to see if anything is physically blocking the air damper.

Dbiz- My only problem with your fix is that my Tilt button doesn't do anything - it's dead. I don't know if its a fuse (and where might that be) or if there is a sensor somewhere that prevents the tilt button from being active until the window is fully closed and seated. I suspect the later.
